ANXIETY AND NERVOUSNESS

i HAVE A PROBLEM OF GETTING ANXIOUS AND NERVOUS WHEN I GO TO CLASS IN COLLEGE. I DON'T LIKE THE TIME WHEN THEY TELL ALL STUDENTS TO INTRODUCE THEMSELVES, THEN MY HEART STARTS TO POUND, AND I FEAR THAT I WILL EMBARACE MYSELF. WHEN I TALK THEN I CHOKE WHILE DOINF IT. THIS PROBLEM STARTED IN HIGH SCHOOL. MY ANXIETY IS JUST MODERATE AND NOT ALL THE TIME. i TEND TO THINK THAT OTHER PEOPLE ARE JUDGING ME AND I WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO CONCENTRATE IN CLASS AND IT AFFECTS MY PERFORMANCE.

I am the same way.  What sucks is that the only real cure is doing the very thing you are most afraid of.  Speak to people.  Speak in public when you get the chance.  Yes, you might embarrass yourself at first, but learn to appreciate and embrace the embarrassment as part of the learning and growing process.  Especially while you are in college; defeat this thing in front of people who you will only know temporarily before you get out into the working world.  Start with small groups and work your way up if you can.  Check to see if there is a Toastmasters meeting in your area...  this will be a supportive group of people who all have the same anxiety you do, and you can help each other.  The more practice you get, the more comfortable you will feel.

If this fear is to the point where it is a debilitating force in your life, you can talk to your doctor, who can prescribe medication to calm your nerves, but I think it is always best to solve without medicinde when you can.

there are a lot of people that have a fear of speaking in front of people. if you feel this is more than that i suggest talking to your dr about it. some people suffer from an anxiety disorder and sometimes meds can help. congrats on going to college!
