MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi there,
Antiepileptics should be taken for at least 2-3 years after a seizure attack to prevent a repeat attack. Side effects are common with any medication. There are side effects of  this drug also. It may not be necessary that these side effects may be experienced by all. Increased appetite, weight gain, thrombocytopenia, skin rashes, liver disorders, acne, pancreatitis etc.are few of the side effects. Your doctor has advised you to take this medication since the benefits outweigh the risks. Be vigilant in case you develop yellowish discoloration of the skin eyes or develop any new symptom seek medical help urgently. I sincerely hope it helps.
Take care and regards!
