Anyone on Proscar for BPH?

3 years ago I was diagnosed with BPH, my doctor did the scope thing on me and stuff, real fun. Anyways, I'm only 28, so it's really new territory for me and unusual for someone my age to get BPH. A year ago when I got my DRE doctor told me my prostate was around 40 grams in size. 6 months ago, he checked it and said it had shrunk to around 36 grams after taking 160 mg a day of Saw Palmetto and UroXatral for the 6 months. Doctor stated between those 2 things, is the reason my prostate shrunk. Although the UroXatral does help relieve the symptoms of going a lot and urgency, and not feeling like I empty all the way, it didn't totally do the trick.

So, that is why my doctor put me on Proscar 5 mg and I have been on it since December of 2005. I'm just about done with my 6th month on the drug, but have yet to see any improvement. I'm still taking the UroXatral under the advice of my doctor to see if Proscar works. But I'm just curious if anyone has had to wait 6 months or longer before they saw any improvements?

Hi, Should be helping some by now.It you dont see change in another month ,I would get him to try something else.If he want get you another doctor.Good luck.

Well, my Urologist told me just b/c my prostate shrinks, doesn't guarantee it will relieve symptoms all the way b/c if it's tight around the uretha, it could squeeze on it still. But he said the UroXatral would help relieve the tightness and I might have to be on UroXatral and ProScar for eternity basically.

I am curious to see how much my prostate has shrunk the next time I see my doctor..

My other question is, does it matter if I'm taking Proscar before I go to bed or not?
