Bluecross Blueshield Insurance Question

Bluecross Blueshield Insurance Question

I'm an 18 year old male, suffering from sexual performance anxiety.
i've been considering getting prescribed viagra/cialis to help.
however, i'm a little embarassed to tell my parents, who's insurance i'm covered by, about this.
if i set up a doctors appointment, pay the copay myself, and bring my dads insurance card, will he be able to know what specific medication im prescribed?
I told him i had anxiety issues, but he most likely thinks im just going for general anxiety/ getting medicated with your typical SSRI's. I did tell him i was going to go to the doctor to ask about/be prescribed medicine for my anxiety.
would he know what medication im prescribed? simply because im being covered by his insurance?
thanks.

I have Blue Shield of California. The EOB or explanation of benefits that the subscriber (in this case, your dad) would receive would list the provider/ doctor's name; the date of service (appointment date); the charge for the office visit... along with the amount that the insurance covered and the amount that the subscriber is responsible for (the co-pay and/ or other non-covered charges). And, if there are lab tests involved, the participating lab charges would also show in the EOB.

But, in answer to your question, No... the EOB wouldn't detail prescribed medications.

Now, if you got a prescription and had it processed through a mail order outlet that does business with that insurance... then whoever receives the prescription package in the mail... and opens it would see what's in it. Of course, this would not happen if the prescription was filled at a local pharmacy and you picked it up... but, might your dad ask for an itemized receipt?

Anyway, just as an aside... it would surprise me if the doctor prescribed those ED meds that you mentioned... I think that he's more likely to treat the anxiety. But, that's just my take.
