Bone Bruise Healing

Bone Bruise Healing

I received a blow to my cheekbone two weeks ago. I went to the doctor who said I had a bone contusion/bruise. Most of the initial symptoms (tenderness, generalized selling, bruising) have subsided. However, there is still a residual pocket of swelling over the area. The doctor said that this could take several more weeks, even months to subside completely and to continue to ice the area. My question is - is there anything I can do to speed up the process of getting rid of this pocket of swelling? Any otc medication, cream or even herbal product? Besides occassionally icing the area, I think I should take an anti-inflammatory like motrin. Would you suggest anything different?
