Discoloured skin growth on groin.

I'm not sure what forum I should have posted this in since you have so many and I'm no health expert. I've tell anybody who reads this the details of my problem. About 3 weeks ago I found a discoloured lump on the inside of my groin, the skin was soft on the surface and hard underneath. I showed it to my mum and she gave me a treatment programme explaining it was a boil and the swelling would go if I used this medication. I was applying Activon, its a medical grade manuka honey, to a dressing and bandaging the wound up. At first the swelling seemed to dissapear the skin is completly flat again but it still retains its discolour. It is a dark purple, the injury has appeared over a scar from a previous injury when I was younger. If I stop using the honey the swelling starts again slowly. Another lady took a look at it for me today and has advised me that it is not a boil and I should have it checked out. Can anybody give me some kind of opinion as to what it might be? It isn't causing me any pain but it could be affecting my body without my knowledge. If anybody has any idea then please feel free to share your wisdom.
