Failed vasectomy???????

My husband had a vasectomy 8 years ago during a previous relationship. He and I are wanting to have another baby. There has been some questions as to whether or not he had the vasectomy (long story). I am a medical student and have a high powered microscope for home use so I thought it would be cool if I could do a semen analysis, I had him ejaculate in a clean sterile container and stained a couple of slides for observation, when I looked through the microscope at 600-900X, I was shocked there were as many as 30 motile sperm that were darting in straight lines, and 4 that were not motile that were kinda spinning in circles we also had intercourse that morning which would bring his sperm count down. My question is should we hold off on going to a fertility doctor and give nature some time and try to conceive? Is it normal for the detection of sperm 8 years post vasectomy? I also have a history of not being able to regulate my cycle for 1.5 years after the Depo Provera and we are coming up on 1 year and 4 months mark. So is it possible that this whole time we thought I couldn't get pregnant due to his vasectomy is really a case of me not ovulating correctly?
