You're not stupid!!  We all make poor decisions (especially when stressed).  It's possible that you needed to do that to get to the point you're at now.  A point where you may be ready and receptive to change.

It's possible your frequency has increased due to transitions you're making in your life.  You learning about who you are and thinking about what you want to do.  It's possible these are also made more intense because of the environment you're in.

The behavior sounds a little obsessive.  Don't they have people you can talk to in the Army?  Don't be afraid to use them if you need too.  I mean it.  Don't let your pride get in the way.  Talk to a medic if you have too.

I hear that you can't.  Dr Gould has a program on www.shrinkyourself.com that helps individuals with emotional eating issues.  It probably helps people with other issues or addictions too.

I hope this was of some help.  If not, I at least hope you felt heard.  The doctor and other members may have additional comments and suggestions.

Take care and please be careful.

You could also try posting on the compulsive behaviors forum too if you wanted to get a range of responses.  The expert there hasn't posted for a while so not sure when you would likely get a response.  You could even try looking in the forums archives to see if they had any useful info.  There have been several posts there recently on masturbation.
The expert on this forum usually provides excellent feedback and advice though.

J is right, this is stress, and it's frequent with young men when testosterone is most abundant.  I know in the Service it's hard to talk to someone because you're concerned about your career, but it sounds like you're trying very much to get attention.  So you might as well go talk to a counselor.  I'm not young anymore, but if it helps, many of us go through this at some point, usually after a break-up.
