Help with Unknown Illness

My brother in law has been sick since January. He does not know what is wrong because he is in prison and they have refused to treat him. It started with his stomach hurting and vomiting every time he ate. Now his stomach is still hurting daily, he has muscle spasms all over his body, bad headaches, and ringing in his ears. He feels like he will not make it out of prison (In August). He has even asked him Mom to purchase life insurance for him. He is only 31 years old and has lost about 30 pounds since January. We need answers because no one else will help him

Hi there,
The exact cause of his illness can be confirmed only after a clinical examination and work up. The common causes of symptoms experienced by him are food poisoning, peptic ulcer disease, gastritis, superior mesenteric artery syndrome and very rarely some gastrointestinal malignancy.Persistent vomiting can lead to dehydration and weight loss. He needs immediate medical attention, clinical examination and tests like serum electrolytes, blood counts, kidney, liver function tests and ultrasound scan. He should be provided symptomatic care like i.v fluids, antibiotics, antacids till the diagnosis is clear. Do consult the prison authorities. Keep me posted on how he is doing.
Best luck and regards!

He may not be vomiting anymore but he still feels like he is going to die. There are several other things going on with him that are worse than the vomiting. He has been moved to a different prison so maybe they will do something. I hope he doesn't do anything to go back but regardless, no one should be treated like that. Prison or not.

No, not all prisons will give good medical treatment. At least he is'nt vomiting any more so that's a good thing. I do hope when your brother in law gets out he will never do anything to get himself locked up again because things like this can happen, no medical treatment or very little.

Thank you! I really appreciate your response. He is no longer throwing up on a daily basis because they gave him something for his stomach but they won't do anything else for him. It's very upsetting because he is in prison and there is nothing his family can do for him. I thought prisons were supposed to help someone is they were sick. Especially someone who has been sick for several months. I will pass this information to his Mother. Thanks again!
