I only have one kidney - (Alcohol?)

When i was a couple months old, i had to have one kidney removed becuase it was malfunctioning or something like that. So i only have my right kidney. I am now 16 years old and have had absolutely no problems with this kideny so far. I have also heard that maybe this kidney should be a little bit bigger becuase it has done more work over all the years. My question is, can i still drink some alcohol? A lot of the parties that i go to have this and i have drank a little and been fine, but im not sure if i should drink too much. What is taking more of the load of filtering out the toxins? My kidney or my liver? Can i still drink some alcohol once in a awhile and be okay? Just wondering what your opinions are. Thanks!

I also have only 1 kidney, but mine was never removed still have nonfunctinal one.I found out when I was 20.I'm 29 now.First you should be careful not only bc of kidney also bc your only 16.When legal I would advice, you can drink but not everyday.Drink alot of water & since we are prone to urineary tract infections also drink alot of cranberry juice.I was told to be carefull after all this is your only kidney your young now but god forbid when your old you get sick.Think about it know that your young. Also not to much soda, juice anything with sugar only in moderation.I know bummer, but a kidney stone -or- kidney infection is not a walk in the park!Take care ...nanis

Okay, first I have to scold you since you are 16 and should not be drinking.

Putting your age aside, I know several people with one kidney and they drink occasionally and moderately when they do.  Personally, I think if I only had one, I'd do everything possible to "ensure" it's safety.  Meaning, doing things that could possibly hurt it, but that's just me.

If you should decide to drink in the future (when legal) please be careful and limit your intake and don't drive!
