Inguinal hernia repair options

by Jojobelly, Dec 25, 2007 03:54AM
What are my options for inguinal hernia repair? I have been researching medical journals online, and there seem to be several issues- calcification, adhesion, foreign body rejection and phagocytation of artificial (poly) meshes, but absorption and disintegration of collagen/pericardium/natural meshes. I am wary of putting petroleum products in my body for toxification reasons, but i want a reliable mesh that will not be rejected by my body and will provide adequate collagen reformation over the inguinal ring area without failing over time.  Any thoughts?

had one done three years ago, i got some mesh put in, i am having my second hernia done in a few weeks, its bloody annoying having them, my first one is still fine to this day, i had the right hand side done and now (3 yeras later) the left hand side is in desperate need of being fixed, the advice i would give is get a good surgeon, if you can if not its cool, its a simple operation i am told, go on the advice they give you and take it from there. ask them to do key hole surgery as it seams the best way, and totally totally look into both sides not just one, there is a big chance if you get one on one side you get it on the other too, if i had have had my way i would actually have had both done first time round......
thats the biggest advice i can give you, ask your surgeon if you think you should get both sides done, i am not looking forward to my second one being done, only because i hate going to hospital....
