Is circumscision absolutely necessary for me?

by CuriousAboutMe, Oct 06, 2006 12:00AM
I have phimosis from birth. The foreskin never slides down, There is some sort of ring at the tip of the foreskin and that blocks the way down as its diameter is smaller than my shaft.

Will this be a problem during sex? While masturbating I observe that the motion makes the skin try to go back but cant. Will this be a real painful problem during sex when the intensity of thrusting is more?

it could be, but you should have it evaluated by a doctor.

about getting "the cut" for BASIC reasons !    l.e.

I read it but, but its mostly about the guy feeling confident with an un-circumsized penis.

My question is from a man's point of view, about the pain and discomfort during penetration. If anyone has had this experience, please respond.

I am uncircumcized as well, but have not ever had to deal with phimosis, so I cannot fully relate to your situation, but I have done some reading on the topic.  Circumcision is not the only option, but you do need to get it looked at, and find a way to alleviate the situation since a foreskin that cannot retract can encourage buildup of secretions and bacteria and such under the foreskin. And if you cannot retract it, you cannot clean the glans. This buildup can eventually lead to irritation, balantitis, and there have even been studies that link a nonretractable foreskin or poor hygiene to penile cancer.  You don't want that!  So get it looked at; you may find a solution other than circumcision, but I don't think you want to leave it as is.  Check out this link for further discussion and alternatives:

Please be careful. Don't worry and DON'T FORCE ANYTHING.

It is normal for the foreskin to be tight. If you are under 18 this is to be expected and most likely will change with age. However, if you try to force it you could do real long term damage. If the foreskin doesn't loosen up naturally there are surgical options. But even then it is unnecessary, elective surgery, since men with phimosis have no problems with it sexually or hygenically as older adults.

To insure against infection you can clean the preputial space (inside the foreskin) by flushing it with warm water from a clean bulb syringe (relax, it's not a needle; it squirts water like a water gun).

As for your concerns about sex, it would be better to keep your foreskin since about half of your sensitive nerves are bundled there. Plus the foreskin serves to protect and lubricate your head, which prevents chaffing and loss of sensitivity, both of which can make sex a lot less fun. See:

If anything is causing you pain you should see a doctor, but don't let them scare you into a painful and damaging proceedure without getting all the facts.

There's a great site that opposes circumcision, where they provide a ton of useful information on the topic, http://www.nocirc.org/ - please check them out. You can read their brochures online, or maybe even contact someone who can give you further information.

Just be gentle with yourself. In our society you're lucky to have this choice. Be informed whatever decision you make.

Circumcision is definitely not your only option and, being circumcised myself, I would advocate STRONGLY against it. At worst, you might have to have an operation to open it up, but that's it. Oftentimes, you can solve it yourself by applying cremes and working it back over time by yourself. Ask a doctor about the cremes and mention that you aren't interested in circumcision.

Well although you can probably have sex ok and certainly produce kids, you have to look at phimosis also how it affects your sex partner!

Women like foreply that involves covering and uncovering the uncircumcised penis head by penis massage. Obviously not on in your case. Polls have shown women like this in 70% of cases as the most enjoyable foreply with an uncircumcised man. Guys love it too!

\Besides streaching and using creams, its possible to have a partialcircumcision that just removes the tight band of muscle...no more than 10% of your foreskin. That would solve your prob and preserve almost all your foreskin...I'd certainly keep as much as possible.

See a Urologist. Dont accept full circumcision under any circumstance un less truly neccssary. Try for relief of the opening only  by any means.
