Itchy/irritated skin but looks normal - concerned/scared

by lampshade555, Mar 23, 2007 12:00AM
I must admit I'm a little frightened about this, but at the same time I'm completely perplexed as to what it might be or how it was caused:

For whatever reason, over the past week the skin underneath (right side) of my penis has become irritated/itchy.  I haven't had sex in quite a long time and this never previously was been a problem.  Even stranger, there is absolutely no evidence of why this skin is irritated (i.e. no blisters, ulcers, spotting, nothing).  The skin is just kind of mildly burning/itchy.  In fact, it really doesn't bother me that much to be honest, but it concerns me because it hasn't really gone away.

Now, I fully intend of visiting the doctor as soon as I can, but in the mean time I was hoping maybe someone out there could maybe shed some light on this for me.  For the first time in about a year I'm seriously beginning to see a girl and I don't want to find out this might be something along the lines of an STD.  Although, honestly, I can't imagine how that could be the case.  Still, I'm trying to be cautious.

I can only pray it is nothing serious.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

mine has started doing the same
i believe it is from a girl getting off her period and having long sex?

Maybe, but I haven't had sex in quite a while.  Is that the only real possibility?

hi guys , it can be just sweat rash or a yeast infection . you can get sore from prelonged sex but the period thing is rubbish .keep it clean and dry and use lube for masterbation (masturbation) as that can irritate when dry .if it does not improve see a doc for yeast cream x x x

I believe your greatest fear would be of having HSV2 . I've had the same problem as you which is frustrating I know...I keep on checking through out the day to see if the itch has resulted in redness, a blister anything ..but no - just an itch. One thing to take comfort in though - MD HHH (Medhelps expert in this area) has stated: an itch plus no lesions or sores does NOT equal HSV2 / 1
So in a nut shell no visible signs of a irritation is a very good sign it is not HVS2.
Any other bacterial or fungal cause can be cured... problem solved.

I hope this was helpful.

I visited the doctor about a week and a half ago - said it wasn't an STD (thank God).  Prescribed me some fungal cream.

The redness has subsided a good portion of the itching/irratation, but it still hasn't gone away.  In fact, now that I've been able to take a closer look, it appears as though I have a scratch or tiny, thin red line near the places on the shaft that are irratated (2, possibly 3 spots in all - each with it's own tiny red line).  The lines are hard to see and you sort of have to pull the skin tight and look closely to find them, but they are there.

Outside of that I appear completely healthy.

Any thoughts?  Should I be concerned?
