Muscle Weakness caused by Nerve Damage??

I damaged a nerve in the base of my neck 6 weeks ago. This caused me to have a pain down my right arm and numbness/tingling in 2 fingers. I am also now experiencing muscle loss and soreness.

I play football and go to the gym but completely rested for 5 weeks until the pain gradually eased. The pain in my arm moves from my tricep to my forearm but is not really that painful anymore.

My main worry is my right pec, right lat and right tricep. The muscles have become very weak and hurt when I press them. I can now see a noticeable size difference to my left side and dont feel like the pain has eased at all in the last month.

Can you tell me how long will this pain and muscle loss will last and is it related to the nerve damage.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

Thanks in advance.

I did go to the doctor but was just told I had damaged a nerve and to take diclofenac and co-codomol and it would get better in time. That was 6 weeks ago.

Hi,I hope you went to the doctor about this and had it looked at and xrayed. If you did not then I would ASAP.You may have a pinched nerve, that needs to be treated by a doctor!Good luck.

You damamged a nerve and he told you to use co-codamol?  Dude, go back.  You cannot be too careful about nerve damage (especially when they are in your neck >=/).
Go to the doctors, get it x-rayed and even MRI'd (magnetic resonance imagining).  It's entirely possible that you didn't just damage but have trapped a nerve which is why you still get pain.

In any case, don't sit around a day longer - go get it seen to ASAP.

I'm experiencing the same problem you have, but only my problem is my left arm. I've seen 4 doctor's and x-rays, mri, emg. The emg I had done today, and it is very painful. I was told the only way to correct my problem was to have surgery. If you have not seen a doctor you must go as soon as possible. A hand surgeon and a nuerologist.

Hey Mikwillo,

Sounds exactly like my situation. I had a similar injury last December and had a lot of pain for several days, which did eventually fade. But muscle loss was very pronounced in the pec, tricep and lat, just as you, after a few months. MRI was inconclusive. Neurologist could not fix by operating. Basically it is  just wait and see if it heals completely.

Fast forward 1 yr and I think the muscle strength is about 70% recovered. Visible difference is noticeable if you are looking for it. I still cannot get the same level of workout on the injured side - can't get the same level of "burn", it just gives out. Numbness is still there in the fingers.

I'm still waiting. Hope you have made out better.

I was in a motorcycle crash 5 months ago. I have been complaining of numbness and pain in my left fore arm. I was told to give it time and it would get better. It has gotten worse and my bicep is completly gone. Finnaly my doctore relized that there is some thing really wrong. I am waiting to hear back from him now to find out what the next move will be. I was told that nerve dammage if not fixed within 6 months can be permenent. It has been 5.5 months now. I am really worried myself.Dont know if i will regain my muscle or streanght, or the fealing in my arm. I hope you get things looked at soon and make sure that it gets taken care of. Good luck!    Brian
