Orchitis

My husband has Orchitis.  Has anyone else on here had this type of infection.  his type is NOT std.  the dr. told him to just take it easy for a few weeks.  He has meds for pain and the infection.  
How long will this pain last.  is it common to swell and be hard and RED, and hot to the touch.
if you have had orchitis, please let us know what you did for the pain and how long did it last.  I have some photos if anyone is questioning the size, due to the infection.  the swelling has cause it to be LARGER than a large grapefruit.
is this common???someone please, help on what to do about the swelling and the pain.
My husband is getting very depressed over all this.  He cannot work or even go pee as a man should.  is it common to swell like this????
