PAINFUL LUMP UNDER ARMPIT

J_V
NOT TOO LONG AGO I BEGAN TO GET A RAISED BUMP UNDER MY ARMPIT. IT DIDNT HURT TILL I ACTUALLY NOTICED IT, AND THE PAIN WASNT BAD AT ALL.I SEARCHED THE NET AND THE ONLY THING I COULD COME UP WITH WAS THAT I WAS USING MY BROTHERS DEODORANT FOR LIKE 3 TO 4 WEEKS BEFORE THE BUMP SHOWED UP. I STOPED USING HIS DEODORANT AND HAD HIM BUY ME A NEW ONE. HE BAUGHT THE SAME BRAND DEODORANT BUT I THOUGHT NOTHING OF IT SINCE IT WAS NEW THIS TIME. WELL THE BUMP WENT AWAYS AND USED THE NEW DEODORANT. AFTER A WEEK OF USING IT A NEW BUMP ROSE. THIS ONE WAS A LITTLE BIT MORE PAINFUL BUT SMALLER IN SIZE. I FIGURED IT WAS THE BRAND THAT WAS GIVING ME THOSE BUMPS, SO I STOPED USING DEODORANT FOR A WHILE TILL IT WENT AWAY.THEN ABOUT 6 DAYS AFTER IT WAS GONE, I NOTICED A THIRD BUMP THAT RAISED.THE BUMPS FELT LIKE PIMPLES BUT NOT TOO SWOLLEN OR RED. IN OTHER WORDS, ITS HARD TO SEE THE BUMPS UNLESS I POINT THEM OUT TO YOU. WHEN I DID RESEARCH I FOUND OUT THAT THIS COULD BE SWOLLEN LYMPH NODES. IF SO, HOW WOULD I KNOW IF IT IS? AND I KNOW THERE ARE MANY POSSIBILITIES FOR SWOLLEN LYMPHS BUT I WANNA KNOW THE COMMON CAUSES FOR SWOLLEN LYMPHS UNDER ARMPIT.I AM REALLY CONCERNED AND WANT SOME OPINIONS TOO. JUST WANNA KNOW WHAT IT COULD BE.PLEASE HELP... THANK YOU!

My husband has bumps under his armpits on both sides that come and go.  He stopped using deoderant a few months ago but they are still coming back.  These bumps are the size of lima beans and sometimes they are red, if we squeeze them nothing comes out, they just get bigger and more painful.  We would go to the doctor but our insurance does not kick in for another 6 months.  One of our friends told us it was cancer, he is pretty upset now.  Any suggestions... I would have said deoderant but he hasn't used it for a few month, now what?

I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM AND I HAVE BEEN USING DEGREE FOR 10 YEARS. ITS ONLY ONE SIDE, RIGHT SIDE, UNDER MY ARMPIT. WHEN I DONT USE ANYTHING IT GOES AWAY FOR A SHORT TIME, THEN IN A DIFFERENT SPOT 2 OR 3 MORE POP BACK UP. ITS ON GOING FOR 1 MONTH AND IT CAN HURT REALLY BAD DEPENDING ON THE AREA AFFECTED, DUE TO PRESSURE. COMPRESSING HAS NO EFFECT AND POPPING THEM IS OUT OF THE QUESTION, WHAT ELSE CAN I DUE TO PREVENT FUTURE BREAK OUTS IF NOT USING ANTI PERSPRANTS IS NOT WORKING?

What most of you have is nothing more than a boil. this is when there is a small red/pinkish bump under the armpit. do not pop it- it is not a pimple and will come back twice as bad as the first time. They are caused by anti-perspirent deoderants. Use normal deoderants if you must and at all costs avoid spraying directly into the armpit. If they increase in size they are called an abscess, GO TO A DOCTOR. I didn't soon enough and had to have it lanced which was when it was cut open and the blood and puss squeezed out. You don't want to have this happen to you. Sweating is a need and is not something you can avoid. You can mask the odour and the stains by wearing vests under clothes or colours that don't show sweat patches so easily. Sweating is not optional for anyone- everyone from the Queen of England to death row prisoners sweat so instead of trying to stop it if you aren't comfortable then hide it. Hope this helps so you don't have to go through what I did.

I had the same thing, I usually use Speed Stick Deodorant and accidently grabbed anti-perspirant deodorant instead of just deodorant.  A week later I saw what looked like a pimple so I popped it and just some clear fluid came out so I knew it couldn't be a pimple.  The next day it was started getting larger and very painful.  The pain was so bad I had a hard time sleeping.  This was on a Saturday so I made an appointment to see the doctor the Tuesday.  Turns out it had become an abscess, so the doc. put me on antibiotics and pain pills and I'm waiting for the lab results to come back to know the exact bacterial infection I have.  Bottom line, go get it checked, ASAP before it gets worse.  He told me if it had gotten much worse I would have had to have it surgically removed.

It is most likely a disease known as  hidradenitis superlative.
It is a common, painful, debilitating, and chronic inflammatory skin disease affecting 1% of the global population, primarily occurring in inverse areas of the skin, e.g. axillae and groin. HS variably presents clinically with painful and chronically recurring, deep-seated follicular nodules, papules, pustules and abscesses, leading to suppuration, fibrosis, distortion, degradation and hypertrophic scarring of the skin. The etiology/pathogenesis/c ause of HS is not known. HS remains a distinct and separate disease. In the past, direct comparisons of HS to sweat gland and acne diseases have delayed the planning and development of focused HS research which could discover the actual cause. I have had it for at least 12 years and it is very painful. Always had it in my groin area by my underwear line by my thigh. Yesterday I got one under my armpit and it is very painful.
Look it up on the internet and read about it. There is also a support group out there.

I had an abscess under my arm and then however, I had a keloid under my arm and the abscess was under the keloid. I went to the doctor after 3 days and he gave some antibiotics. I put heat on 3 times a day and it finally came to a head but, what surprised me was how much stuff came out. It was black and smelly, kind up rubbery. It was so big that it left a hole in my underarm for a fay or so. How do i prevent this from happening again. I stopped using regular role a few years ago and I know use Tom's deodorant stick, the one use wet everytime you use it.

Antipesperant (sp) deoderant is deoderant that keeps you from sweating. Deoderant however (just deoderant) lets you sweat but covers the odor. You need to read the label on the deoderant in order to ensure your getting just a deoderant. Anyways, I got these same bumps under my arm. Sometimes I would have five or six of them at a time. The reason is because your body does need to sweat. When you wear deoderant it blocks your glands and makes them swell and turn red. Sometimes if they hurt very bad, but a hot pad on them until a head forms. Then the head needs to be popped like a pimple and the puss can be drained out. Sometimes, however, you do need to go to the doctor and have them lanced. Nothing prevents them besides swopping from antipresperant to deoderant- just so you allow your pores to sweat but there not stinky :)

Just stop using deoderants or at least put a bit and don't wear clothes for a minute after putting on the deoderant......

I agree with the rest they are just parts of teh skin trying to breath...relax...we all get them especially in summer

You know it is a cyst or something not dangerous by going to the doctor and checking it out. Especially if it remains, continues to grow, or others pop up. Night Sweats? Fever? Lumps in other places?

Go to the doctor and get an ultrasound.

thanx for the help. but my question is, how do i know if it is really a cyst?. and when should they go away because if had already 4. One will pop up and go away then another one shows up. this has happend 4 times but neither bump has stayed for more than a week. and the last one i got was the least painful and the smallest. are you sure they are not swollen lymphs? can u describe a lymph and a cyst?
