Pelivic/abdominal Adhesions--Why never in men?

In 2003 I had an appendectomy for a perferated appendix with peritonitis.  Since that time I have had weird pain in my left lower abdomen that radiates to my testicle.  Recently, after seeing tons of doctors and having tons of test done.  This new urologist has FINALLY discussed with me the issue of adhesions.  He has scheduled a cytoscope, and depending on the results from this test, he says he is almost positive I have adhesions and is willing to explore to diagnose them.

Why is this never considered in men?  It fustrates me and makes me angry that I have suffered SOooo long without any pain management over something that, according to literature, almost every doctor I had seen most likely knew EXACTLY what I was suffering from, especially considering my past surgery.  It took me going out of my local hospital network to get this diagnosis--almost as if they were protecting themselves, from what I have no idea.

When I think back to the all the times i got nasty looks from doctors in the ER who thought I was making up my pain, it makes me very angry.  I wonder how many other men suffer from this due to abdominal injuries whether from surgery or injury.  Looking on this board, testicle, lower abdominal, and leg pain is very common.  

In the meantime, before I get diagnosed, I still suffer.  This could have been over with a long time ago.  Has anyone else had a similiar experience and is willing to share?
