Penis Scar

My boyfriend and I plan to get married. He has a large scar running along his peins from the tip where he was circumsized, all the way down to the back or his testicles. The scar is easy to see, with stich marks. We don't know where it came from, and we can't ask his parents about it. I would like to know what kind of operation he went through as a child, to make sure we can still have children. What could this type of scar be cause from at such a young age that he can't remember. Thanks.
