My 16 year old daughter is sexually active with her boyfriend. While on birth control pills, they never used condoms (they have a monogamous relationship). Now that she decided to quit taking the birth control pills, they are using condoms and spermicide. With or without condoms, she gets regular urinary tract infections after a weekend of sex. When she first started getting them, I thought it was because he was not circumcised, but now I'm not sure. The doctor told her that the spermicide could have irritated her. I had told her how important it is to urinate after sex, to flush the bacteria out of the urethra. She didn't bother to urinate after sex when using condoms because she mistakenly thought the condoms would prevent any bacteria from the urethra (which she thought was where the vagina was). She now knows the facts! Seeing the old thread on circumcised males vs uncircumcised males, I must comment. My first husband was uncircumcised, and knew nothing about smegma and hygiene, so even after getting straight out of the shower, he smelled. Oral sex was unpleasant for me and I was a young bride, and not very outspoken. Now it's 30 years later, and a different husband (who is circumcised) for the last 25 years, and I have to say the only difference between the two is it seems like it would be easier to keep clean without the foreskin. When the foreskin is pulled back, it has to be washed well, but as soon as it retracts, it seems to sweat, and start getting odorish again. Maybe my former husband wasn't as clean as he should have been, and only washed well when he knew we'd be having sex. Whatever the reason, he couldn't seem to wash the smell off. It always semed to have white cheesy stuff (smegma) below the head. Was NOT a turn-on!!! So...I think a circumcised penis is cleaner!
