Unsure whether to have testicle operation? Please advise.

Hi all. First a bit of history. I am male, 31 from UK. Suffered with right testicle pain from age 18 to 24. Scans / exams revealed no abnormalities (see my previous posts for more details). Pain went away from late 2003 only to reappear earlier this year, probably aggravated by starting to run 3 times per week. Stopped running straight away.

Ultrasound scan this time revealed 2 small simple cysts on right epididymis, largest 3mm in diameter. Doctor said it is up to me if I wanted to see a urologist as these cysts are normal. Since having the scan, I noticed that my right testicle seems to be backwards, in that the epididymis runs down the front of the testicle, rather than behind like it should.

I went to see a urologist a couple of months ago. He has offered me an operation if I want it, but it is not guaranteed to work. It is exploratory surgery and they will remove the two cysts (if found). They will also somehow fix the right testicle in the correct position.

Since seeing the urologist, the pain comes and goes. I am really nervous about being operated on down there and am trying to weigh up the pros and cons. Could it make the pain worse for example?

Also, does anybody know how exactly they will fix the testicle in place?

So basically, the operation is not mandatory, it is to try and help. Should I have it or not?

Have you gotten a second opinion? and the questions you asked have you stated them to the doctor? I would go for a second and even a third opinion.The big question is will they guarantee no more pain
