Varying Height

by sbarra1x, Aug 24, 2009 04:09PM
I am a 19 year old male, about 5 foot 8 on average, but my height seems to vary greatly on different days.

Sometimes I just feel more “compressed” and I am noticeably shorter, and although I have not done any actual measurements it seems as though I am occasionally shorter by about half an inch to 2 inches.

Is it normal for my height to vary to such a large degree at this age?

I know that is it common to shrink during the day due to gravity, but my actual baseline height seems to be scaling up and down as well.

To put this into perspective, I am still growing at the moment, and sometime last week I woke up to find that I was about an inch-an inch and half taller than usual. This lasted a good few days and it was very consistent, but than a couple of days ago I woke up to find that I was suddenly about an inch shorter again. Once more, this has been lasting a good few days now.

I also remember this happening more than once in the past, but not to such an extent as this, and thus I just dismissed it as better/worse posture while sleeping ect.

I have never heard of anything like this happening but I am just assuming that it is normal for your height to sort of scale up and down depending on how compressed you are, or how stretched out you are.

Is this correct? Or is there something else that could be causing this to happen?

Is the loss of height, temporary or not, a symptom of any medical conditions?

Some insight would be much appreciated.
