Why a 6 month PSA test - Normal level - PSA velocity spiked

I am 51.  I am in great health and am on no medication.  I have no health issues and my annual labs are always good.  Last year I had my first PSA test and I registered an 0.8.  This year I registered a 1.8.  Based on this years result my Doctor now wants me to get a test in 6 months and not wait a year.

When I go on the internet the articles overwhelmingly say to ignore PSA velocity.  Should I conatct my Doctor and ask him to schedule in 1 year and not 6 months.  My insurance will only pay for a PSA every 12 months anyway...
