broken pelvis

by becantryn, Jun 03, 2007 12:00AM
My very frail 82 year old father has emphysema and bowel cancer and has lived in a nursing home for 2 years. Last week he had a fall and has broken bones in his pelvis and has blood in his urine, he is now in a hospital palliative care word. I would like to know what the prognosis is.

hi , i work in a hospital in the uk and i am worried that you dont know ! they should be disscussing with you , have you asked the hospital ?
a palliative care ward is in my experience a ward where no intervention occurs and the paitient would not be resused , they are there for just washing and basic medical attention if needed . the issue of prognosis is a hard one no one can tell really , it could be today or 6 mths from now . the only way you can get this info is to ask the staff what they think but still they cannot be sure .i am sorry you have to see him like that and hope you get some  information soon .please ask them ! good luck x x x
