A person's digestive system was never designed to need some kind of a "colon cleanse".  Concentrate more on good nutrition and exercise resulting in good overall health.  One will encounter many products which will not improve one's health, but will only improve the seller's bottom line.  Do not fall for the quick-fixes or radical purges as an approach to health.  Live a healthful lifestyle on a daily basis, as mentioned, with good food and good exercise.  There is no mystery here, as the benefits of healthful living have been proven down through the ages.

I'm a little late to the discussion, and I am normally a skeptic. But the cleaning out that one does for a colonoscopy is not the same as a colon cleanse. The cc sheds some of the old, caked on lining in the small intestines that the pre-colonoscopy doesn't do. I know about both from experience. The colon cleanse gets rid of some nasty stuff that certainly isn't doing you any good. And, again from a skeptic, it FEELS GOOD.

If you really want to cleanse the colon, make an appt with a gastroenterologist for a colonoscopy. If you're 50 or over, you are due.  It not only looks for any problems, it also allows them to remove precancerous polyps that may be found.  Its one of the most important preventions for colon cancer.  They give you really cool twilight drugs so you don't have to be embarassed or uncomfortable.

The day before, you have to drink some flavored drink that cleans your colon out totally.

If you choose not to go that route, you can use any brand of psyillium seeds or husks to clean you out.  Just follow the directions or go to your health food store and buy a bag of husks for $8.00. Take about 1 tblsp in 16 oz of water and bingo.

Colon cleanse is nothing but psyllium husks as is metamucil and most other brands.

I'd seriously consider getting a colonoscopy if you haven't had one.  The apprehension is much worse that the procedure.

Good luck.

My dad died from cancer which began in his colon, so I take colon health somewhat seriously.  I did a cleanse sold by Wilderness Family (check on the web)--cost approx. 150 for 2 people to do the cleanse.

The cleanse plus trying to eat more healthily helped me lose approx. 18--20 lbs. which brought me close to my "ideal" weight.

It will be difficult, IMO, to get a doctor to say a colon cleanse is good.  One reason for this, is that colon cleansing is an alternate route and not subscribed to by the medical community, by and large.

There is something to be said about the fact that much $$$$ is produced by the "normal" ways of dealing with cancer, etc.  & that doctors will not make as much money if we are healthy.  Are all docs greedy?  No, I am not saying that, but think about the $$$ the medical community makes from illness.

Which philosophy will you subscribe to?  The standard or alternate.  A lot of alternate makes sense to me.

You gotta research and make an informed decision.

are there any doctors out there that would like to comment on the subject of COLON CLEANSING???

I also find it difficult to believe that there is 10-20 lbs of waste backed up in our digestive system. I have NO constipation problems and I move my bowles each and every morning, like clockwork. Sometines twice a day.... Not to be gross... But if I eat corn on Wednesday, I see it in the bowl on Friday morning, so how backed up can I be ??

I'M LEANING TOWARD THE PHOSUS SODA... Do I need to take off from work if I use it? How often will I move my bowels if I do the PHOSUS SODA??

I don't know whether it is good or bad.  But before some operations in that past they did colon cleansing before the op. They fill the bowel full of water then you run to the loo non stop until yer empty.  You feel terrible, exhausted and in pain.  So if you want that go for it.  There is another solution. Liver cleansers. Gentler to the body and mind.

Utter nonsense is a good way to describe it.  I was told by my doctor that there is no way that there could be 10-20 pounds of backup within your colon.  There may be some backup....but usually only if you have cronic constipation problems.  If you really want to cleanse...go buy Phophus Soda...I got it at Safeway.  The cost....only about $5.00 for 2 bottles that do the job perfectly.  All of the colon cleanse that are advertised are usually extremely expansive, and do the same thing.
