elevated psa level

elevated psa level

I am a 65 year-old-male. My recent annual checkup was good except for an elevated psa level. The score number has always annually been at 2.64 and this year was 4.37. The doctor said that it was a "high normal" score, but it was a "significant increase in one year and cause for concern." So he scheduled me for another psa test (and another DRE [which was good this time] four months away rather than the annual check. I am prepared for any result and treatment as long as the medical professionals handle their side properly. Am I now at risk for mestatasizing or such? The doctor said a byopsy was not needed at this time. I would like a 2nd opinion, which I will Consider.

If it is a cancer there are two types as such. One is a soft cancer and the other a hard cancer...for wont of a better analogy.

If it is the 'soft' type, then oestrogen is given. (no,you won't grow boobs!) If it the 'hard' (solid) type then surgery and radiation therapy is recommended.

The GOOD thing is that you have had the tests done. Too many men of your age fail to get the test. You are in a good place to deal with it either way.
2nd opinions never hurt.
Good luck!
