My cousin is sick in the hospital for the second time. He was treated for infection in the stomach and his kidneys were swollen. He got better and they also realized he was allergic to penicillin. He was admitted to the hospital 2 days ago and he is having the same issue with an infection in his stomach but they cant figure out where the infection is starting from. Can someone help?

My cousin lives in Trinidad so I cant see him to know but from what i know from realitives he has a low blood count, he works with ammonia, nausea, fever, he can't eat food at all. The test with kidneys say its not stones. They did want to put him on dialysis but his kidney is healthy and fine. He had a stomach virus and he was getting treatment and then it went to a bladder infection and from the bladder it turned into a kidney infection. He got got treatment and he got better. About 2 weeks later he is back in the hospital with the same problem and they cant figure out where the infection is coming from. I am very grateful to you for replying, Doctors in Trinidad aren't very liable.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi,
Gastroenteritis, peptic ulcer, Helicobacter pylori infection, pancreatitis, gall stones, Crohn’s disease all can cause infection in the stomach. What are the symptoms your cousin has been having? Difficulty in swallowing can relate to esophageal problem.Vomiting, dyspepsia may indicate stomach problems. Altered bowel habits are seen in diseases affecting the intestines. The most common signs and symptoms of kidney infections are nausea, vomiting, abdominal fullness, lower back ache, frequent urination, the urge to urinate, pus or blood in the urine, fever. A complete history, clinical examination and investigations may be helpful. Tests like endoscopy, ultrasound abdomen, kidney, ureter bladder and Barium studies may be needed for confirming the diagnosis. I hope it helps. Do keep us posted on how he is doing.Take care and regards.
