male breast lump

male breast lump

hello, i am a 21 y/o male, and recently i found what i thought was a lump under my right nipple. i went to my doctor, who told me it was normal breast tissue, and that it was nothing to worry about. just before i was about to leave the office, my doctor recommended that i check it every month to see if it gets bigger, and if it does, she would send me somewhere who specializes in male breast tissue to get it checked out further. i am very anxious about this, if it was nothing to worry about, then why is my doctor telling me to keep checking it? does she expect it to get bigger? i didnt ask my doctor why she wanted me to keep checking it, i dont know why. i would really like someone to reply with their opinions about this, and maybe i can be less anxious about it. thank you.

Try not to worry about this. I have the same exact thing as you - and I'm sure many other guys do as well. You are very young, and male breast cancer is very rare. Your doctor told you to check it every month to see if it gets bigger as a precaution - not because she thinks it will get bigger. If she thought it was anything serious, she would have ordered a mammogram and/or sonogram. Even if the "lump" weren't normal, it is much more likely to be a cyst, hormone issue, etc - rather than anything serious.
