penis desensitization through ritual friction

ive been looking for ways to desensitize my penis and i dont want to always have to rely on my mandelay gel. So i was wondering if rubbing a material on my penis would eventually desensitize my penis. I came to this thought because that seems to happen to the skin on all the rest of the body when something abrasive is applied to it. i did the same thing with my side abdominals because the skin there was very sensitive and my brush in my shower is slightly abrasive and it kind of desensitized the skin on my side so i was wondering if anyone else has come to the same realization and applied it.
