young man with impotence?

by trailrider400, May 27, 2006 12:00AM
I have a couple questions. First I am only 20 years old and i'm experiencing a lack of sex drive and trouble achieving and maintaining erections. I do smoke, but when i quit for a couple months I saw little difference and my doctor also believes me to be hypoglycemic. But I am also really skinny so I was wondering if maybe I had low testosterone levels. I also used to be a fairly heavy drinker but not at all lately.  I know I need to go to the doctor for an accurate diagnosis but I was hoping to get some insight before I do that.  Any ideas?

Hi,You may have low testosterone. It is true most of the time this happens after the age of 35.But they are many cases of men your age who have low testosterone. The doctor may have been trying to tell you that you have Hypogonadism.Which means you have low testosterone level. You will need to have your blood drawn to get a correct reading. If your total testosterone level is less than 500 ng/dl.at your age you are Hypogonaism. He may try to tell you it needs to be less than 300 ng.to be low but at your age this would not be true. You would have to be more like 60 years old for this to be true.So if it is less than 500 ng./dl.and he wont treat you with testosterone supplement then get you another doctor.A Urology doctor would be a good place to start.Good luck.
