Ambien makes me sleep walk.

Hope I am in the right category...Two years ago my doctor put me on Ambien because I couldn't sleep at night. I was suffering at the time from grief from a death in the family. I have worked through the grief stages but I am still taking the Ambien because I can't get to sleep now with out it. Periodically (about every 3 weeks) when I take the Ambien (1 tab.10mg) per night I get up and do things around the house, I go back to bed but I don't remember the incident. This behavior has scared my husband to death! It has embarrassed me as well! I am trying to wean off the Ambien, what is the best method? And have you ever heard of sleep walking followed by amnesia with the use of this drug.? My doctor just thought it was funny! It scares me!
Thank you,

It is certainly scarey when it happens to you.  Ambien is the culprit, and the only way to wean is start doing without it, but instead of cold turkey, try taking a half of your usual dose for a while, then one quarter, and start staying up later and getting tired more naturally.
