Are Too Many Meds Good For You?

I've been fighting depression for over a year now with two suicide attempts.  My family doctor tried Zoloft and Paxil which did not help. I am now seeing a phychiatrist and he has me on 40mg-Celexa in am, 15mg Remeron, 400mg Nurontin, 200mg Serzone and 10mg Ambien, all four I take in the evening. The last three he has added due to severe insomnia.  But none of this has helped so far.  Can all these be good for you?  Can the combination be increasing the insomnia?  I finally went to a different doctor (family medicine) for another opinion.  He said these were very powerful drugs and that he could do nothing else for me. Any information you may have would be greatly appreciated.  Looking forward to your reply.  Thank you.

Dear Dawn,
It would be difficult to determine if your taking too many medications without a complete evaluation.  It is not that uncommon to be on multiple psychiatric medications. Remeron, Serzone and Ambien are all sedating.  Some medications may cause the opposite side effect of what was intended.  For example, sedation or insomnia, irritability or anxiety.  A second opinion,  from another psychiatrist maybe helpful.
