Can Paxil Be Part Of The Cause

Four manths ago my wife had been suffering from migranes. Our family dr put her on 20mg of Paxil. After a month she was still geting them plus wasn't sleeping so he put her on 40mg of Paxil plus Vicaden, Percaset,and a sleeping pill. None of these helped infact her headaches became worse and more frequent.
My question is almost immediately after starting this Paxil she became involved with another man. As the dosage went up they became more serious. I should explain that we were very happy together and though we had problems they were manageable. She also lost all her ambition and desire to do anything, she became almostlike a walking zomby around the house. The only thing she cared about was spending time with this man. When I finally found out what as going on and we talked it through I started asking questions about Paxil ad was told that this was infact very common. When we asked our family dr he just laughed and said that was not possible. I should add that as soon as we found this out we started weanning her off it and the more she got away from it the more she disliked this man and is now to the point of almost hateing him and can't even see why she was attracted to him.
We are wondering if infact the Paxil could have had any bearing on my loving wife almost leaveing us and turing into a walkin zomby? Please if you could help us out we are going insane with all the different opinoins on this subject.

Paxil affects the brain circuits directly in the area of emotion, and emotional responses are the basis for attraction and dependencies and decisions about relationships.  Also, Paxil tends to numb some people emotionally, and then they crave some stimulus to feel whole again.  The more Paxil, the more that would be true.  That said, those could be contributing factors.

Paxil is known to encourage mania where there may a predisposition to mania.. this is in the literature about paxil.  Your wife may have an underlying predisposition toward mania, and the paxil has brought it out in her.  Mania may present as excessive shopping, promiscuity, gambling.. and other obsessive behaviors.

Therefore, your wife maybe disinhibited, due to the paxil.. and unable to assert the control she normally would.  I would encourage her to see an experienced psychiatrist to discuss this and change the medication.

My very first doctor told me that I shouldn't take Paxil for my anxiety issues due to my addictive personality, however when my company switched insurance agents I had to choose a new doctor that was on my healthcare plan.  I chose a new doctor hoping he was half as great as my old one.  He immediately put me on the Paxil at a standard dose of 20mg.  At first, I loved the way that I felt, I was calm, my worries were not as dramatic and oversized.  I started feeling better but it was soon replaced by overwhelming side effects. The thing I first noticed was my lack of obsession for my house to be clean, it was a diaster. Then I lost every bit of my sex drive, I was useless in the bedroom,  I lost all desire or emotion.  I got to the point were I didn't care if I even made it to work or paid my bills.  I just didn't care.  I wouldn't recommend paxil for anyone unless they have serious anxiety or social anxiety problems, a little nervous energy will suffer severely with Paxil.

I am sorry for your problems.
I have had the same experience after being put on Prozac to replace klonopin. I feel dead. I have stopped the Prozac but now still have klonopin. My head is dull and then sharp. It really hurts. I was so hyper that I did things I could not explain at all except I am aware that these meds do this. Still...I find myself doing just about anything to make myself feel better...over shopping...over eating, oversmoking...trying pain killers...calling everyone...clinging...can't be alone. I ran to my ex-boyfriend and almost lost my relationship basiccally because it felt so bad and no one would help me. I can't work now. I am terrified and have no support. These meds are so dangerous in my opinion that I have no recourse. My doctor also refuses to acknowledge that Prozac messed me up. Klonopin was given to replace a previous Xanax problem...then Prozac to replace klonopin. Will we ever feel ok again? I am told we will, but I fear we will end up dead first.
