Can someone plaease help me ? I dont know what is wrong with me and it is driving me crazy!!I have been reading this board for quite sometime now and have yet to see someone post with the same problem as myself. I have a problem with pain. I have been told that the pains are everyday normal aches and pains that every one gets , but i dont understand,...if everyone gets them , then why isnt everyone like me??
I can be doing anything and i will get a pain in my chest ( checked by Dr and found nothing) Then i start wondering what the pain was , and if i will have another one, then i decide i had better go lay down in case i do get another one ...then another one hits and i begin to wonder if its a heart attack....i have even ended up in the ER. I do this with other pains as well..... I have had a pain in the lower right side of my abdomen for years and still to this day when it hits me i cant help but wonder and thik its appendicitis. I grab the thermomiter and go lay down. Head aches even do this to me sometimes. I know this is not normal behavior, but i cant stop it no matter what i do , and believe me i have tried! It interferes with my life at times and i can't stand it! I know i dont have panic attacks because i dont have all the panic symptoms, although at times i do get very anxious whit these "spells" I dont know what to do anymore.I have tried talking myseld down when this happens but it vwery seldome works. I know the pains are not life threatning because i am still here , but its hard to convince myself of that during an attack. I also recently have started watching people on the streets ...looking at their faces and wondering how they can all smile all the time...and i wonder ...do they go through this? It doesnt seem fair. I dont understand what is going on with me. Am i crazy? What is it? And most importantly .. How do i stop it?

Sandra,
It appears that you have a significant problem with pain in various regions of your body at different times.  You feel anxious at these times and wonder what is happening as you have been reassured by your physician that it wasn't a medical issue he could find.
Sometimes people manifest there psychological pain in the form of physical pain.  This phenomenon is known as somatization.  Keep in mind that pain is a subjective phenomenon and no one can deny that you are experiencing it.  Its etiology based on the history can be determined at times.
I recommend that you have a formal evaluation by a psychiatrist to determine your conditon.  There is treatment for this issue-its just a matter of clarification of your condition.  The information in this forum is intended for general educational purposes only.  Specific questions regarding your health condition should be directed to your personal physician.
Sincerely,
HFHS MD-JM
