Celexa ( or other SSRI) causing Acne?

by kelley, Mar 27, 2000 12:00AM
I was recently treated ( for about 8 months) for Panic attacks and anxiety. My doctor put me on Celexa. During the course of my treatment, I developed a severe case of "adult acne" After tapering the medication recently, and stopping, my skin has cleared up almost completely.
Is this a normal side effect of SSRI's. I fear that if I have a relapse, I will have to deal with this again!

Thank you.

As indicated in the package insert of Celexa, acne is an infrequent side effect of this medication.

It is hard to predict if other SSRI will cause acne if you relapse in the future.

You may want to discuss with your physician the possible risk for acne and benefits of these medications in treating your panic attacks.
