Celexa Side Effects

by Tiga Mom, Feb 21, 2004 12:00AM
I am a 41 year old female, and I  have been taking Celexa 40 mg for about 15 months.  I am taking it to treat anxiety.  It is working extremely well, and I am very pleased with the results in terms of my anxiety.  However, I am experiencing sexual side effects.  Since taking the medication I have an extremely low sex drive, and I have difficultly becoming aroused, and achieving an orgasm.  Prior to taking the medication I did not have these difficulties.  I do not want to stop taking the Celexa, so my question is, Is there anything I can do or take to lessen or remove the sexual side effects?

The standard treatment approach for this is to add Wellbutrin at a low dose.  Ask your doctor about this...

To: Tiga Mom and who else with this concern:
Seen your comment here as it also relates to me. And here I am 41 as well. Been married soon to be 18 years. I have been taking the celexa for couple years or more now. It has the same affect on me. So the same question for me on here. I have been taking it because of depression issues. maybe some anxiety. it really does help me cope with life at work. I love my husband and wish I did not have this low desire that I do. My doctor did mention this to me and I have not asked about the wellbutrin that was suggested to you. but I am not sure what she will suggest. I have been taking this for a long time now . I don't understand as thought that this side affect would go away.
from another with the same issues. Love my family and my hubby and wish to work on this part of it.
