Celexa w/Ultram

by Jeannine.......Hi Monica, Jan 30, 2000 12:00AM
Hello & thank you for your time:
I have been off of Celexa since 1/6,I slowly lowered the dose
over several weeks to 10mg. I stopped due to restless legs
symptoms. On 1/7 my Psyc. started me on Remeron wich I had a very
bad reaction to(disoriented,slurring speach,uncontrolled limb
movement, a very scary experience.Since the eve. of 1/7 and to
present I have had head spins, kindof like being on a ride that
spins you around really fast, the room doesn't move the sensation
is inside my head, sometimes it effects my stomach for a second.
Occasionally I feel like I black out for a split second.
The spins happen frequently throughout the day/eve.My psyc. said
I should only feel withdrawl for a couple of weeks. It is now past the time frame he feels is appropriate. I am no longer
a patient of his, I am no longer taking any medication.I have
a few questions:

I was taking Celexa 30mg for depression and a pain mgmt. Dr. had prescribed Ultram 12/99. My Psyc. said not to take
them together (he said it can cause seizures?) I had taken
the two together several times before I found this out.Is
there an interaction between the two meds? (Celexa & Ultram)
I was also taking Butalbital(Furinal sp?) for headache and
Propulsid for gastroparesis as needed.

Is it possible to have head spins this long after discontinuing Celexa (I was on it for aprox 6 &1/2mo)
Could the Remeron have caused some kind of damage?

Thanks again!
Jean

Dear Jean,

It must be frustrating trying to find the right medication.

I am unaware of any specific interactions between these medications.

Celexa may take 4-6 weeks to clear your system.  Unfortunately, Remeron may also cause sedation and dizziness.

I recommend you discuss your concerns with your psychiatrist.

Best Wishes,

HFHS M.D.-SW
