Conversion Disorder

by Cathydot, Mar 23, 2003 12:00AM
Dr, 2yrs ago isuffered a brainstem stroke followed by an extension in the Pons of the brain. I supposedly had been tx for complex partial seizure disorder for 20yrs by an extremely reputably neurologist. Now my neurlogist feels Ihave a complex migraine disorder w/ a conversion disorder. As I was molested for 3yrs  by my brother as a child. I have struggled w/this ,gone for counseling and really thought this was dealt w/and even had forgiven my brother. How is this possibly? THank You Cathy

Its hard to answer without more information about why your doctor thinks it is a conversion reaction.  If it is, it may be on an organic rather than psychological basis.  That is, a stroke in those areas of the brain could effect the nerve tracks that influence emotional memory.  Also, conversion is not always related to early sexual abuse.  YOu might be dealing with the emotional effects of your stroke and current physical condition. That is something to think about.
