Effexor-effects of missing one dose??

by nate, Oct 04, 1999 12:00AM
I stopped taking my Effexor (75mg once a day) this morning after several months on the drug. I decided to skip todays dose and see if I could get on well without it- I did this without consulting my docter because I didn't expect any problems.
Around noon (only 4 hours after my usual dose time) I started to become extremely dizzy and began having severe diahrea. Could this be from skipping the dose today?? Can the effects of missing one be that quick????
Thanks in advance

Dear Nate,

Venlafaxine (Effexor) is known to have possible adverse reactions stemming from its abrupt discontinuation such as dizziness, insomnia, nervousness, nausea, and headaches, among other symptoms.
It is not common, but can occur in some individuals.  It is recommended that the dosage be tapered gradually and closely monitored by a physician.

It is also possible that you developed a flu-like illness unrelated to the medication.

I wish you the best,

HFHS MD - RG
