EffexorXR and Generic Adderall(adderrall)

by PhotoTeach, Nov 05, 2007 08:52AM
I am a 50 year old female (158lbs, 5feet9) going back on ADD meds since entering menopause this summer.  I went off my Dexedrine in 1998 as the bitchy attitude it instilled in me was affecting my work and personal relationships.  I have been diagnosed recently with Limbic / Overfocused ADD which explains why the Dexedrine made me so irritable in the past.  I am now on Effexor XR 37.5mg once a day.  It made me so tired the first week, that I was given generic Adderall (adderrall) 5mg to boost me during teaching times.  My question is whether this combination is ok?  Would it be better to just increase the Effexor XR for my body weight?  Or is too early to do that?  Does the generic Adderall (adderrall) have the same effect as dexedrine?  I felt nothing the day I took the Adderall (adderrall), so did not take it again.  The rest of the week I was really snapping at my students.  Is there a rebound effect from the generic Adderall (adderrall)?  My other choice is Wellbutrin for the Limbic ADD.  I did try Wellbutrin in 1996 but felt like I was going to have a heart attack, so stopped taking it immediately.  I do feel the Effexor helps me with my tendency to get locked into one course of action and worry.  But I am not feeling relief from my procrastination and distraction from the duties I need to do each day.  Any advice is appreciated.

first of all, the combination of these two medications is okay, and the generic is as good as the label Adderall (adderrall). Most people do not get tired from effexor, but in fact the opposite, stimulated.  Therefore, you may ask your doctor about increasing the dose if you are over your initial tiredness. But more important, stop looking for the magic from pills, and start dealing with the distress you are dealing with, since what you described are symptoms of something, not the something itself.
