How do I know if I am Schizophrenic?

by s, May 04, 2000 12:00AM
Hi
Can someone please explain the symptoms of schizophrenia to me. I am middle aged and have no one close to me to confide in about my fears. Please help.
By the way, if u could mail me direct rather than on this open forum that would be great.
Thanks, ***@****

Dear S

I will not be  able to answer through E-mail directly. This forum is setup  to help people  if they have questions in general. Information provided in this Forum is intended for general medical informational purposes only. Diagnosis and treatment for your particular illness should be strictly in conjunction with your treating physician. I can understand your concern about confidentiality.

Some of the symptoms of Schizophrenia include, delusions (false fixed beliefs) hallucinations (hearing or seeing things which are not there), disorganised speech and disorganised behaviour that impede social and occupational functioning. Diagnosis need to be done by a trained mental professional in a clinical setting after a comprehensive evaluation. If you need a detailed information on Schizophrenia, refer to " Synopsis of Psychiatry" by Kaplan and Sadock-eight edition

Sincerely
