KGB Syndrome

by Susie Williams, Oct 11, 1999 12:00AM
I am working with a developmentally disabled adult male.  I am working on integrating him into the community, however when I read his file it says he is diagnosed with KGB Syndrome.  I, myself, had never heard of this and I have no idea what it entails.  I was wondering if I could find anyone who knows what this syndrome is and the characteristics.  Can anyone help?

Dear Susie Williams,

I am unfamiliar with KGB syndrome. A syndrome similar in name is Kluver Bucy syndrome. It is a rare behavioral syndrome that usually follows bilateral anterior lesions to the
temporal lobe. The syndrome can be caused by tumors, trauma, herpesencephalitis, etc.
Kluver-Bucy syndrome is characterized by loss of recognition of people, loss of fear, apathy, rage reactions, hypersexuality, excessive oral behavior, memory deficits, and over reaction to certain stimuli.
I am unsure if this is the same syndrome, I was not able to identify a KGB syndrome from my sources.  Best of luck.

Sincerely,

HFHS M.D.-SW
