Luvox and weight gain

by paulinjapan, Nov 08, 2006 12:00AM
I am in Japan, where I reside most of the time.  Take 150 mg Luvox (75 am and pm).  Weight gain, or difficulty to lose and keep it off, compounded by recent herniated disk limits my options.  Is there any recommended way to cope with this?

My original comliant was anxiety and panic attacks. First 8 years ago, then 2 years ago after divorce.  These have stabilized and also undergo counseling once a month.

Ie, changing to another SSRI?  I took Paxil and never had side effects until I started reading the internet and all those dopey websites exagerrating the side effects...I doubt they are really side effects, but since I am the suggestive type and worry, I am asking.

A related reason is I take Lipitor 10 mg (in Japan the dose is lower).  The doctor (another one) suggested that with my difficulty to lose weight (I should be 69 kilos but am 83 kilos at 168 centimeters) I might do better on  rosuvastatin (Crestor).

So the suggested heart medication change, presumably to make up for the lack of success in dieting and exercise, is tied to the question about luvox.

Thanks in advance.

The best answer might be to stop the Luvox and not replace it with another ssri.   Your life has stabilized, you are in counseling, and you may not need medication anymore.  If you need something for anxiety, your doctor can prescribe Klonopin to hold you over during anxious times.  This way you don't have to change lipitor...think about whether you are ready to try this.
