My question is this, How will I know when my wife has started the menapause years of her life? She's 41 now.

David,

Menopause is the cessation of menses.  It is accompanied by physical symptoms such as hot flashes to variable extent.  The average age of menopause is 52 yrs and symptoms may occur for several years before hand with erratic frequency of her menstrual cycle.  Please discuss these issues further with your wife and her gynecologist.

Sincerely,

HFHS MD-JM
