Need Assistance for Depression Treatment

Based on the information I've gathered, I'm sure I'm suffering from depression, and have been for many years.  I pretty much fit the mold, according to a number of questionares I've seen.  Having had this come home to me lately, I finally came up with the fortitude to persue treatment...just in time to lose my job and my insurance.  Of course, I now feel like I need the help even more and am less able to obtain it.  While employed, I was searching for some sort of mental health professional in my area, but they seemed to be hiding pretty well; my insurance provider directory was of little help, and even the local phone book was pretty useless.  But, now, not only do I need help finding help, I need help paying for it.  I really need some specific info; i.e., names of organizations, phone numbers, addresses, etc. if it is available.  Any suggestions are appreciated, as the lost sleep, gained weight, irritability, loss of pleasures, lost concentration, and the whole can of worms is just...well, let's just say I've enjoyed all of this I can stand.  Besides which, it doesn't help in the job search.  Many thanks.

Dear Bill,

I am not certain which state you are to adequately provide you a local number regarding your request. However, you may reach the National Alliance of Mentally Ill (NAMI) at 800 950-6264 or you can try their web page nami.org

You may also try the American Psychiatric Association at 888 357-7924 for additional information.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for your response.  I'm terribly sorry for the delay in acknowledging.  I have since found assistance through a university in my area.  I'm working with their training clinic, which makes me a guinea pig, I suppose, but I'm not really bothered by that.  They seem to be very privacy conscious.  They are also working with me on a sliding scale, enabling me to afford treatment I would have to forgo otherwise.  I feel better just knowing that I have help available.
