OCD, Stress, and Brain Damage

Can experiencing OCD and a high level of stress (constantly interfering with living everyday life normally) for an extended period of time (such as 3 years) cause brain damage? This includes having multiple "flight or flee" responses and/or panic attacks each day.

If so, is the damage reversible once a person has learned to overcome OCD and return to living life more normally?

If any damage to the brain can occur, how significant is it and how will it affect the way a person thinks, their intelligence, and their personality?

There should be no brain damage at all, but there was a lot of wear and tear on the body, but a full recovery would be anticipated.

What is causing the stress? Can you eliminate that? I do not think you will have permanent damage, but you have great fear.

Go to www.neurofeedback.com It will be a big help for anyone looking at this website. Neurofeedback is a way of retraining your brain (fixing what is broken) which can help, even cure many disorders.(ADHD, anxiety, depression, OCD,seisures, brain injuries and many more)One session costs the same as a visit to the psychiatrist, except that with neurofeedback,(also known as biofeedback) the true problem of your disorder will be addressed and possibly cured and you will no longer have a need for your antidepressants. There are tons of websites on this subject that you can look up. Instead of falling prey to your disorder, educate yourself. Find out all you can about your disorders or disease, and realize there's more out there than just drugs to help us live with life. We need to truly LIVE life. I too am suffering with major depression, which my antidepressants have only managed to make things worse. Yes, they take the edge off, but in the process disable my emotions, therefore allowing me to settle for a life full of situations that are at the true core of my depression. Instead of changing situations or fixing them, I deal with them, deepening my depression. Sometimes it's good to get angry, speak our mind, or defend ourselves. If we don't how do we ever get our needs met? I'm just now learning this. Years of being unhappy with my job, my home life, my own self esteme, these have been the true cause of my depression and all I've done is look for some miracle pill to make it all better. One doesn't exist. They help us cope, but they don't change the situations we're in. Only we can. Yes, it's going to take lifecoaching and time to get me there, but I will get there. This has been my only hope in a long time. We need to be strong, very strong, and not let our illness defeat us. God has put us all hear for a reason, and I know it's not to be miserable. There is a life out there with happiness, I truly believe that. We just need to keep believing that, and if meds aren't helping, surf the net and keep looking for more alternatives. Also, go to Yahoo Health Groups and look up the lifecoach health group, there is a whole site full of inspiration we all need. Don't ever give up. There is always hope, CEK

Lots of free information about your problem and many other can be found at a new site soon to be called theocdsite. theocdsite Apparently they are using part of this site for now. Also yahoo kenfbpn keyword. I searched last week for information effexor, I take it now, and found this new section and they have several pages of ocd material. I wrote them and they said anyone can help people with ocd if would post their individual story, like successes or dealing with ocd that kind of stuff which would be what the site is mostly about. Ken said site is free and self supported and existed for about maybe four weeks now.
