Paxil CR?

by Darius5691, Jul 24, 2007 12:00AM
I've been diagnosed with panic/anxiety disorder. 13 days ago I switched from Xanax to Klonopin (I had been on Xanax 5-1/2 weeks). Right now, the Klonopin seems to be working pretty well (in conjunction with Trazodone at night for insomnia). I just saw a new psychiatrist yesterday, though, and she wants me to go onto Paxil CR 12.5 mg. After a few weeks, the plan is to taper off the Klonopin. After that, she'd like to take me off the Trazodone. I'm a bit nervous to try the Paxil CR, because I've heard it could possibly increase my anxiety in the beginning. My psych said "no, it's not stimulating." Lots of conflicting info on these SSRIs. Will the Klonopin help to counteract increased anxiety, if it does happen? Also, what other side effects should I be aware of with Paxil CR? I've been reading that weight gain is a significant problem. What is your opinion overall?
P.S. I should mention that on May 17 I started on Zoloft 50mg. Two weeks into it I experienced a major panic attack that lasted hours. The next day, I had constant anxiety. My primary care physician switched me to Lexapro, which made my anxiety 10x worse. All I could do was pace around. It felt like I had too much adrenalin in my body. That's why I've been on Xanax, and now Klonopin. My concern is ... if two other SSRIs caused me to have increased anxiety, is it likely that Paxil CR will, too?
Thanks very much,
Anne

I think that is a valid concern, and should be discussed with your psychiatrist. It can happen, but if it does, klonopin will work to quiet you down...so talk to your psychiatrist about a gradual transfer over to paxil that can be stopped at any time.
