Paxil

Hi
I have been on Paxil for over a year now. I am taking 40mg daily. I decided it was time to stop due to side effects (ie. wight gain and lost sex drive) I was taking 40mg tablets and I cut them in 1/2. I took 20mg for about 5 days. Then my Dr. said to cut the 20mgs in 1/2 to 10mg for 5 days. I did so. Ever since I've been on Paxil, Ive noticed that I get tingly in my hands and face and I get light headed. Its a really weird feeling.This feeling has increased and happens more often since as I've lowered the dosage and then went off the medication. Is that normal? Will it go away? Is it just a side effect of going off of Paxil? How long will might it take to go away?
Any help is appreciated.

Paxil is generally well tolerated and there are usually no problems when discontinued as you describe. Sexual dysfunction
is not uncommon and like other related side effects , it resolves after the medication is stopped. A flu-like syndrome is the most common problem when discontinuing Paxil. The numbness/tingling may represent a rare side effect, a seperate medical condition, or symptom of anxiety/depression. I recommend that you discuss these issues further with your physician. Medication related effects should not persist for more than a few days after discontinuation of Paxil.
