I am a 26 year old male.  I had an unlpleasnt experience w/ my current girlfriend months ago durning sex due to a lost erection and in tun lost my confidence.  Since that time it has consumed my mind at all times and caused me anxiety.  I've been tested and all Physical signs point to a healthy 26 year old.  I was told I have performance anxiety and have sought couseling.  I might add that I am able to contiue having sex w/ the help of Cialis but don;t like the fact that I have to depend on something I had no need for before.  I've become obssesed with tring to make myself aroused almost all the time.  I test myself when looking at woman on the street in porn and it doesn't seem to excite me anymore.  I've become so preoccupied that recently I considered that I could be gay or something.  I never in my wildest dreams ever thought that ever before.  I searching for anwsers to my problem and wonder if an antidepressant may help.  If so, what are some that I might be able to speak to my doctor about and that will not interefere with sexual desire and erections being how most do.  I just want to get back to normal but can't stop myself from these obsesive thoguhts no matter how hard I try.  It doesn;t make sense, I've always loved woman and here I am asking myself differnt.  Pease help.

Roger, I think I answered this a few days ago, but if not,let me try again. Losing an erection and becoming self conscious, and obsessed, is a very common thing to happen. It is not a sign of mental illness. It is a vicious cycle of trying to hard and stifling the natural processes by excessive preoccupation. Trying to be turned on by porn when you are not in the mood...a cold start...just won't work so all you do is falsely prove to yourself that it is worse than it really is.  I would advise you to use the Cialis for the next few months until you regain your confidence, and then one day when you are naturally aroused, it will all take care of itself.

I am a Psychiatric Nurse.....happened to read your question.  Of all of the MANY very good antidepressants on the market, Wellbutrin XL is the drug most prescribed for people experiencing sexual difficulties BECAUSE it has NO sexual side effects as the others do.  Most of the SSRI type antidepressants(Prozac, Paxil, Zoloft, etc.) cause alot of sexual dysfunction...by taking Wellbutrin, you'll not only benefit from the anti-depressant qualities, but you'll not complicate the issue of having more sexual dysfunction. Just thought you might like to have this info.
