Questions about meds and such

by ummLee, Jun 08, 2003 12:00AM
I have had sever panic attacks and anxiety for 17 years now I am a 33 year old male I am agoraphobic, panic attack disorder, depression. I have been at times completly homebound for 2 periods in my life for 2 years each then I got on medication in 93 and did very well on the medications (xanax and zoloft, thou I had tried almost every drug on teh market those seemed to work)I was able to do semi normal things go on trips and such. I had been seeing a doctor up until july of last year for 6 years and he decided to close his pratice I had been taken off the xanax 1 mg 4 times a day and 200 mg zoloft once a day and put on klonopin 1 mg 3 times a day and 200 mg zoloft then switched to wellbutrin sr 200 mg once a day. after he closed his pratice I found no other doctors that wanted to help so I went off my medications I have pretty much been house bound again since sept of last year. leaving to go thru a drive the is a extreme task. I have started seeing a new doc as of 5/16 and he put me back on what I had been taking 1mg of klonopin 3 times a day and 200mg of wellbutrin sr once a day. I have been on these meds since 5/16 it is now 6/08 and they are not helping use to when I was on the meds I did not have the anxiety I am still having or depression I have cronic insomnia as well. is it the meds are not in my system ir not strong enuff due to I had been off them so long my body would require more now to counter the anxiety. I am supose to go back to see the doctor on 6/12 and I am going to ask him if maybe I should go back on the xanax and zoloft as they were the meds that helped me the most when I was first getting help. Its like starting all over. I did very well on teh meds for almost 10 years and after a period of not being on them for 10 months I am now back to homebound even on the meds I am on now, does it sound like I need a stronger dose or try the other meds or have I not given it long enuff to get into my system. I know that back before I went off the meds if I felt anxious ar a severe attack coming on I could take a klonopin and in a few minutes feel better. could it be my body just delevloped a high tollorance to the klonopin and wellbutrin even thou I have not been on them for 10 months. Please hel as I was almost a normal perosn again on the meds and the last 11 I have been back to the scared person who is afraid to leave at all. do you think the xananx and zoloft combo might be better to get me back on my feet or stronger doese of the klonopin and wellbutrin Sr.

Thanks

Lee

I definitely agree with you that your best effort at this time would be to go back to what worked the best.  Zoloft is a more powerful antidepressant than Wellbutrin, and probably should be the key medication for you....discuss this with your doctor for sure.

My doctor gave me pills for insomnia cause of my anxiety becauseI can't sleep before I took any other medication he gave me I took it and the next day I felt groggy and kind of unblanced like kind of drunk in a way then the next day I started taking my xanax and I felt better but I still feel unblanced and my right side of my head feels kind of wweird like my eyes feel kind of slitted and I feel like I'm drunk or something still.

I have been struggling with depression and anxiety for many years.  I was first put on paxil and xanax.  I hated paxil, I felt like a slug, lost my sexual drive, and gained weight.  I was then changed to Wellbutrin SR 150 two times a day and a .5mg of Xanax once a day or whenever I needed it.  This worked for about 7 years then the anxiety and depression came back full force.  I am now taking 200 mg WEllbutrin SR two times a day and klonopin 1mg 4 times a day.  I'm a little nervous about the higher dosage of Wellbutrin but I'm going to try it.  Has anyone been anything simular to this?
