Paxil cr is hard on your liver, is this
causing the bruising or is it something else?
Dear Kris,
PaxilPaxil
Paxil cr (
ParoxetineParoxetine
Paroxetine hydrochloride
Paroxetine hydrochloride er) is one of the SSRI's (
SerotoninSerum serotonin level specific Reuptake Inhibitors) which is used for depression, OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) and Panic disorder. Paxil is metabolized in liver. Increased plasma concentrations of Paxil occur in people with kidney and liver diseases. There have been rare reports of abnormal bleeding associated with Paxil use. Eventhough a causal relationship to Paxil is unclear, impaired platelet aggregation (platelets help clot blood) may result from depletion of serotonin in the platelets which can contribute to abnormal bleeding. Bruising may be unrelated to paxil . A thorough medical evaluation is needed to rule out any physical causes for bleeding.
